Iced tea is a staple at our house. Which means that the drinks we regularly drink at home are brought to a total of four– coffee, water, milk, and tea. For my kids, this means that they have three options– water, milk, or at lunchtime, tea.

Despite living in the South, though, our tea is not syrupy sweet. We like it strong just like our coffee, with just a touch of sweetness. Tea bags are also one of the few items we are subscribed to received automatically from Amazon. We found a tea we love, and once they stopped carrying it in the store, we signed up to receive a box every other month.

I have recently started making our tea in the Instant Pot, and if you can believe it, it’s even easier and (I think) even better. Try it for yourself and tell me what you think.

If you don’t have an Instant Pot, but are on the hunt for a great glass of slightly sweetened iced tea, this is how we used to make it on the stove: Fill up a stockpot with a gallon of water and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, add four tea bags, turn off the heat, and set a timer for 10 minutes. After ten minutes, remove the tea bags and add sugar.

Instructions

  1. Pour the water in the Instant Pot, place in the tea bags (with the paper tags cut off), and set the Instant Pot to cook on high pressure for 3 minutes.
  2. Quick release the pressure and remove the tea bags. (Do not let the tea bags sit in the tea longer or the tea can become bitter). Stir in desired amount of sugar (we like 1/2 cup for one gallon).
  3. Transfer to jars or a pitcher and let cool. Store in refrigerator once cooled.

  1. Hi, on the mason jars, do they have to be refrigerated? Can you pre make and but in pantry to use when needed? Love the recipe, but don’t have room in fridge.

  2. I want to make some really nice tea for Thanksgiving this year. I liked that you explained that I will want to add around four bags in the instant pot. I might want to find a really nice tea that a lot of different people in my family can enjoy.

  3. The photo shows “family size” tea bags, which I think are larger than “regular” size, but your list of ingredients does not mention which size to use in this recipe. Can you please clarify? Thanks.

      1. With regard to the family size tea bags, I’d suggest your changing the recipe to specify that. Not many people are going to see the small family size words way down on the bottom of the box. I am looking forward to trying your method, as my husband and I drink a lot of iced tea.

    1. I clicked the “instant tea bags” link and it says : 4 single serve tea bags equal 1 family size tea bag, so just go times 4 on the tea bags.

  4. Making this tea “again” in my new duo that was just delivered.
Super easy and yes I’d say better!!

  5. Now I’m hooked making this sweet tea! I made it last weekend for my family for the 1st time then the next day I had to make another batch. We loved it so much!
    Thank you Lisa!

  6. Made this tonight and it turned out great!! My husband who doesn’t really like tea thought it was very good. Just sent the link to a friend too.

  7. Ohh I love iced tea but don’t often make it at home. I made a couple flavors of infused water in the Instant Pot last week but wasn’t too crazy about how they turned out. But Instant iced tea sounds wonderful!
