I was not originally planning on sharing this recipe tonight. Nope. My plan had been to share a list of awesome audiobooks for Christmas. But that post is now getting bumped another day.

Tonight, while reheating leftovers for dinner, I recorded a short and sweet Facebook Live video showing how to make cinnamon apples in the Instant Pot. And seeing everyone’s enthusiastic response to this simple dessert (or side dish– I would totally serve this next to macaroni and cheese or Brussel sprouts), I wanted to write up a quick recipe for you to pin and print (if that’s your thing).

(Clueless what an Instant Pot is? Check out this video about why it should be in your kitchen, and this post on the top 15 must-have recipes for Instant Pot owners).

I LOVE dessert. I love whole ingredients. I love quick and easy. And I especially love when all of those things come together in the perfect harmony of delicious sweet treats that do not keep me on my feet long after dinner when the couch is calling my name.

Well, actually, at this time of day it is more likely a small child is calling my name, drowning out the call of the couch until they are finally coerced to go to sleep.

The entire video I recored was only 4 minutes if that tells you anything. (What it should tell you is that the prep for these cinnamon apples in the Instant Pot only took about 3 minutes). From start to finish, the apples took 10 minutes to cook.

So.Easy.

Dessert anyone? Or breakfast. That works too.

Description

An EASY recipe to make cinnamon apples in the Instant Pot. Three ingredients and just 10 minutes to cook!

Ingredients

Scale

3 apples (we like gala)

1 heaping tsp cinnamon

1 heaping tsp maple syrup

Instructions

1. Peel, core, and slice the apples. (I use this tool that does it all at once!).

2. Combine apples, cinnamon, and maple syrup in the Instant Pot. Pour in 1/4 cup water. Stir quickly  to coat the apples.

3. Cook on high pressure for 2 minutes. Quick release. Serve immediately or remove lid and keep warm until you’re ready (up to an hour).

  1. Thank you! I have an 8 qt Instant Pot and was concerned about the small amount of liquid in this recipe but glad to report I had no problems whatsoever. I used gala apples and followed recipe instructions but added 1/2 tsp each of nutmeg and allspice. The Cinnamon apples turned out absolutely delicious! I love the them so much that I will use this recipe to steam a large batch of apples and will freeze in individual portions.

  2. Great article. This article is well written and I agree with everything you said. You just took apple crisp to a whole new level…I LOVE it! This looks amazing. I just want to dive right into this for breakfast. Peanut butter is the perfect addition and you really nailed this! I always think about eating crisps for breakfast when I have them in the house! This looks fantastic! Love the peanut butter!

  3. Haven’t tried yet, but was wondering if the apples could be used as a pie filling after cooking in the IP? They sound so good!!

      1. Received more than a dozen pippins and wanted to cook them
Saw your recipe and with a couple substitutions, cooked some cinnamon apples. ( I used date surup, and just put all ingredients in the IP without stirring before beforehand.

  4. I pulled apples off my tree. I don’t even know what kind they are. I made the recipe for a healthy dessert. So good making a larger batch . Thank you for sharing.

  5. We’ll, it tasted great. . But I followed the recipe exactly with my true Instant Pot and got applesauce. Delicious applesauce, but still applesauce.

      1. I’m trying to reply to your question (Lisa) but am unable. I used Granny Smith. Maybe they have more liquid?

  6. Simply delicious! I used honey instead of maple syrup. I also added ginger spice. Tasted just as delish cold the next day. Thank you for such a great recipe!

  7. Hi I just found you blog looking for an Instant Pot Mini recipe to use us some apples. My husband and I are getting started with the mini for our RV life. Do you think a mini recipe would use these same measurements particularly the water?

Also do you or any of your readers know where I might find recipes especially for the MINI? I’d appreciate any recommendations. We have one cookbook of them.

    Thanks in advance!

    1. I had trouble finding recipes for my new mini. Got cookbook “ Cooking with your instant pot mini” and have found some great recipes for starters.

    1. Used 3 tablespoons water in bottom of pot for steam. Ran out of water and apples were raw. Hate the instant pot. Most recipes flop like this one.

      1. Carole, did your Instant Pot come to pressure? If you used the amount of water and syrup in the recipe, there should have been enough liquid to come to pressure. If your water was gone and your apples didn’t cook, my best guess is that the seal was not in all the way or something was preventing the pot from pressuerizing so the water was used up.
I’m sorry you had trouble with it. I’m happy to help troubleshoot recipes/problems if you want to message me. I use my Instant Pot daily and just finished writing a cookbook, so I am pretty familiar with it. I’m happy to help.

      2. whoa! I have actually never had any recipe fail–not from this site or from the cookbook that came with the pot…. sorry you hate your pot–do you have a ‘knock-off’ or the real thing? because that might make a huge difference…. Barbara

  8. Tried this and it was so easy and absolutely delicious! Just wondering if you have ever doubled it. Thanks for sharing, love your blog and especially your FB videos:)

      1. Mine is an 8 at Ultra
The manual says to always use 2 cups of water to pressurize.
Your recipe only calls for 3tblspoons of water.
I think my IP will give the “Burn” message.

        1. If the thing you are cooking already has water in it, that can offset some of that 2 cups. I also have an 8 qt. I would just always make sure there’s an inch or so of water coverage i over the bottom of the pot after all your solids are in there.

  9. Exactly what I was looking for. Quick, easy, and came out perfectly. Sure to become a new staple in our home! Thank you so much for sharing!

    1. What a delicious recipe! I did add Craisins. I also used brown sugar instead of maple syrup. After I dished it up, I topped it with pecans and whipped cream. Thank you! A definite make again!

  10. I just made these and added raisins / dried cranberries / chopped pecans … tbsp of pancake syrup .. no maple syrup in cupboard … it turned out DELICIOUS!!!

    1. I would increase the liquid slightly. I do not have an 8qt, but have read that a little more liquid is often needed to bring it to pressure.

  11. What about sugar and water in lieu of maple syrup? I just want to make them now and don’t have any on hand. Sounds delicious!

  12. I used crisp/tart red apples (Autumn Crisp) and doubled the recipe, but kept the same amount of water as in the original. They turned out perfectly!

  13. I used green Granny Smith apples and they came out mush at 2 minutes! I will try 1 minute next time. I spiral cut mine the same as yours.

  14. Thanks, Lisa. I made these tonight using 3 1/2 apples and the main complaint was I didn’t make enough!

  15. These sound delicious! I’m new to the IP so maybe you can explain how these come to pressure without liquid? Do the apples create it? Thanks1
